Information about the open source project

Description of the project
File-O-Meter is a webbased document management system for small and medium sized enterprises looking for a small DMS solution, available for free. It can be used to archive files and share files with a group of authorized persons. It handles the automatic versioning of uploaded files and provides a version history for each file.

Who is the software′s intended audience?
Small and medium sized companies such as engineering offices, as well as associations or communities which are in need of a shared data platform.

What are the system requirements for your software, and what do people need to know about getting it set-up and running?
You need a web server which runs PHP and MySQL. Some features require a cron job. All that is needed on the client end is a web browser and an internet connection.

Where do you see your project going?
We hope to find some assistance in order to improve File-O-Meter. We would like to expand File-O-Meter to handle common CAD file formats. We have several other ideas and suggestions that we would like to implement in the future.

What′s on your project wish list?
As mentioned before, better support of CAD files. More precisely: preview and converting functions for CAD files. Our wish list contains features such as digital preservation, e-mail archiving and workflow management. A detailed list can be found on the » overview of intended features and the » wish list.

How is the project organized?
We have two developers working on File-O-Meter. They are responsible for debugging and feature requests. They also coordinate the efforts of our QA-Testers.

How many hours a month does the development-team devote to the project?
Each developer works approximately 20-40 hours per month on the project.

How can others contribute?
There are some important items on the projects wish list. People can contribute by helping find solutions for these wishes. Moreover they can help localizing File-O-Meter for other countries, writing documentation, reporting bugs or developing bug fixes.

Why was the project placed on SourceForge.net?
We are continually working on this project, but there are still several large tasks to do. We hope to establish a small community to help make File-O-Meter a really good choice for anyone who is looking for a free DMS with CAD support.
